- Obituary
Dorothy Jean (Holladay) Martin, 87, passed peacefully on August 2, 2020 in Tulsa, OK. She was born March 29, 1933 in Broken Arrow, OK to the Howard Henry and Addie Alene (Barbour) Holladay. The youngest of seven children, her older siblings Oletha Frances, Betty Lucille, Fred Russell, twins Loyd Erven and Floyd Edward, and Ruby Evelyn as well as her parents and husband Jimmy Dale Martin preceded her in death.
Dorothy grew up in the Tulsa Oklahoma area attending Union Public Schools. She graduated from Union High School in 1951 as her class Salutatorian and received a full scholarship in Music (Baritone horn) to the University of Tulsa. Dorothy’s dream at that time was to either be the first female Jockey or the first female Band Director. Even though life took her in a di!erent direction she maintained her love of music, singing and horses the rest of her life.
She married Jimmy in 1951 at the Broken Arrow Assembly of God church and celebrated 69 years of marriage together this year. They had three children, Darlene Francis (Martin) Anstine, Dale Randall (Randy) Martin, and Rickie Gene (Rick) Martin.
Dorothy enjoyed working and held positions in TV Productions and Employee Relations at ORU and while as an Executive Assistant at the Williams Companies ran the Tulsa Are United Way campaign. Those that knew Dorothy well would refer to her as a kind loving person, but she was also a strong protector and supporter of those she cared about. In one case having testified on behalf of her co-worker in a child custody case.
Dorothy is survived by her three children; Darlene, Randy, and Rick, six Grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren and their spouses and partners.
A graveside celebration will be held for both Dorothy and Jimmy who passed in April on “Date TBD” at the National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, OK.
